Edit tasks in a popup with realtime comments, drafts, and notifications

What is the Task Details Popup?

  • edit tasks: Edit task details without leaving views like Kanban and Plan Builder
  • deep-linkable: Open specific tasks via URL (?task=<id>)
  • realtime collaboration: Comments and changes appear instantly for all viewers
  • draft saving: Changes autosave as private drafts before publishing

What you can do

  • Edit task name and description
  • Change State (column) from a dropdown
  • Set health status, % complete, priority, effort
  • Pick start/target dates; mark as blocked
  • Assign multiple users
  • Discuss with threaded comments in realtime
  • Follow the thread to get email notifications

Opening the popup

  • double-click: Double-click any Kanban card to open its task details
  • URL: Open specific tasks via URL (?task=<id>)
  • editing: Edit fields directly in the popup

Using the popup

  1. Double-click a card to open the popup
  2. Edit any field; changes autosave as a private draft
  3. Click "Save and close" to publish your draft
  4. Use the State dropdown to move the card to another column
  5. Add comments; others see them instantly
  6. Toggle "Follow thread" to receive emails

Editing and saving

  • autosave: Changes autosave as private drafts while you edit
  • draft visible: Only you can see your draft changes
  • publish: Click "Save and close" to publish changes
  • live updates: Published changes appear instantly for all viewers

Comments

  • threaded: Comments support replies and threading
  • realtime: Comments appear instantly for all viewers
  • notifications: Follow thread to receive email notifications on new comments
  • drafts: Comment drafts are saved privately before publishing

Task Properties

  • dates: Date-only in workspace timezone; start ≤ target
  • priority: None, Low, Medium, High, Urgent
  • effort: Story points (0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13)
  • health status: On Track, At Risk, or Blocked (does not change column)
  • state: Current column; changing state moves the card (and syncs with Plan Builder when applicable)

Tips

  • use drafts: Edit freely knowing changes are saved as drafts
  • follow threads: Enable notifications to stay updated on task discussions
  • change state: Use the State dropdown to move cards between columns
  • assign owners: Assign tasks to team members for accountability
