Calendar View
View Plan Builder tasks by month. See start/finish spans on a calendar.
What is the Calendar View?
- monthly grid: Visualize tasks on a standard month calendar (6 rows, Sun→Sat)
- spanning bars: Multi‑day tasks render as bars across their days; single‑day items render as 1‑day bars
- read‑only: Designed for presentation and quick scanning; edits happen in the Plan grid
Why use the Calendar View?
- date‑first view: Quickly see what lands on each day/week
- spot overlaps: Identify congested weeks and smooth workload
- shareable: Easy to show in planning and status reviews
How dates and bars are determined
- inputs: Each task may have a start, a finish, an optional duration, and type (task, subtask, group, milestone)
- inference:
- If only a finish is set, we back‑compute the start using duration
- If only a start is set, we forward‑compute the finish using duration
- Milestones are zero‑duration and render on a single business day
- business days:
- Starts are aligned forward to the next valid business day
- Finishes are aligned backward to the prior valid business day
- coloring (matches Plan Builder):
- Milestones: amber
- Parent/group rows: purple
- Subtasks: teal Bars show the task name (truncated if long)
Plan Builder specifics
- toggle in toolbar: Use the view buttons (Plan | Gantt | Calendar). Clicking Calendar shows the monthly view; clicking Plan returns to the grid
Using the Calendar
- navigation: Use Prev/Next buttons, or pick a month and year from the selectors
- weekdays: Header shows Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat
- range: The year picker spans the earliest task year to the latest task year (falls back to the current year if empty)
- interactions: Cells and bars are not clickable; hover shows the task name via the browser tooltip
FAQs
Why aren’t some tasks visible?
Tasks render only when we can compute both a start and a finish (either provided or inferred). Tasks without any dates and no duration won’t appear.
Why do dates look slightly adjusted?
We align starts to the next valid business day and finishes to the prior valid business day. This can move a bar by a day at boundaries.
Can I filter what shows on the Calendar?
Not currently. Use the Plan grid to edit visibility/fields; the Calendar mirrors the schedule at a high level.
Does the Calendar support a weekly zoom or “Today” button?
No. The Calendar is a monthly, read‑only view with Prev/Next and month/year pickers.
Can I edit tasks from the Calendar?
No. Use the Plan grid (table) to edit tasks; changes are reflected here.
Tips & troubleshooting
- If nothing appears, ensure tasks have at least one date or a duration so a full span can be computed
- Use it for monthly reviews to highlight busy weeks and single‑day milestones
- Remember that critical path styling is not shown in the Calendar
